Transformers Themed Nintendo Splatoon Event Announced

Transformers Splatoon 02

Thanks to NintendoEverything.com, we have just learned that Nintendo has announced Splatoon’s next North American Splatfest taking place next weekend. Why is this important to us Transformers fans and collectors? The theme for this Splatfest is Transformers! Nintendo has partnered with Hasbro for a Transformers theme that gives players the option to choose either Team Autobots or Team Decepticons. The Splatfest will begin on August 28th at 9:00 PM PDT.

If you are unfamiliar with Nintendo’s Splatoon, we have included a description of the event after the jump, thanks once again to NintendoEverything. Check it out!

Nintendo and Hasbro Join Forces to Let TRANSFORMERS Fans Take Sides in Splatoon

Are you team Autobot or team Decepticon? Nintendo and Hasbro are joining forces to help you defend your robot allegiances in the Splatoon game for the Wii U console.

Splatoon features themed events called Splatfests that let players pick a preference, such as Autobots or Decepticons, and then compete against the opposing side in online battles. A Splatfest celebration lasts for 24 hours, during which players head into battle and try to rack up Turf War wins for their side. While the Splatfest is ongoing, in-game characters get to wear a special T-shirt that shows which Transformers team has their allegiance. The ink that each team shoots will also be customized to match the color scheme of the chosen side.

Once a Splatfest ends, the side with the most points will be awarded the most Super Sea Snails, items that will allow them to upgrade their gear in the game. The Transformers-themed Splatfest event is scheduled to run starting at 9 p.m. PT on Aug. 28 through 9 p.m. PT on Aug. 29 and is open to all Wii U owners who have Splatoon and an Internet connection.

Splatoon, which is exclusive to Wii U, represents Nintendo’s take on the action-shooter genre. Characters called Inklings can transform into squids as they attempt to cover the play area with their team’s colorful ink and splat opponents. Using an array of inventive weapons, players cover the playing surface with as much of their team’s colorful ink as possible before time runs out. On Aug. 5, a free software update in Splatoon brought a large amount of new content to the game, including two new matchmaking modes, new weapon types, an increase to the game’s level cap and more than 40 pieces of new gear.

MP10 Reissue 035

We’re continuing the galleries today for some not super fresh but still recent releases with a look at Takara Tomy‘s MP-10 Masterpiece Convoy (Optimus Prime) Reissue. MP-10 originally came out in 2011 and has been used multiple times already: Masterpiece Optimus Prime 2.0, Masterpiece Black Convoy 2.0, Masterpiece Convoy Mode “Eva”, Year of the Horse Optimus Prime, Masterpiece Convoy BAPE Version. He set the bar for the current Masterpiece line with most figures coming after his release attempting to be in scale with him. Due to popular demand, he’s been re-issued in Japan and Asia. Minimal differences other than some packaging inserts and slight box text changes are present. If you were looking to get into the Masterpiece game but didn’t want to spend a fortune on an aftermarket MP-10, now’s your chance. He’s out and in stock at most retailers including site sponsor TFSource: MP-10 Masterpiece Convoy @ TFSource.

More images from the Twitter of Takara Designer Hisashi Yuki, this time of Takara’s Unite Warriors Groove and LG-16 Slipstream. Groove however is still in the prototype phase in these images while we continue to get a look at the painted Slipstream. Megatron DVD

Local Australian electronics retailer, JB Hi-Fi continues to provide our Australian fans with DVD after DVD as they now have in-stock the 30 Years of Megatron DVD. Like the DVDs released back in March for Optimus and Bumblebee, this one features a look back at all the incarnations of the sinister Decepticon leader we’ve come to know and love over the last 30 years. For some fans, this may be a nice trip down memory lane; for newer fans this may be an important history lesson for you.

As far as we know this DVD isn’t available at US retailers, but JB Hi-Fi has it for sale at $12.98. The DVD has a total run-time of 125 minutes and is rated PG.

Red Bumblebee

Some surprising Masterpiece news thanks to board member General Tekno who has found an cell phone image of a page from Figure King on Twitter. The image shows off an upcoming Masterpiece Red Bumblebee! He looks to be a straight-up repaint of MP-21 Bumblebee in homage to the G1 toy. Of course he is not to be confused with the entirely separate character, Cliffjumper. Unfortunately this means we must continue to wait for a Masterpiece Cliffjumper, but this is excellent news for Mini-Bot collectors! More info on the original repaint can be found in our Resources!

MP-21R will include 2 face plates, spare tire, laser gun, and a chromed front bumper in car mode. This release is scheduled in December for 5940 yen. We’re unsure on details concerning other accompanying accessory piece (like Spike in the original release and the jetpack in the G2 version) , but stay tuned for more news on this figure as it develops as well as other upcoming Masterpieces, and be sure to share your speculations in our Masterpiece Speculation thread!

We’ve got something cool to show you now. Via TFND, we have a look at the pack-in comics which were supposed to come with the repacks of the Combiner Wars Wave 1 Deluxes. Those following the site will know that this intended running change ultimately never materialised for the Aerialbots, though we did get Dragstrip with a comic in a revised Wave 2 case.

These comics were being given away with a spend of approximately $60 or more at a Taiwanese comic convention. What is cool about this is we have a look at the backs of the comics – which like all Combiner Wars Deluxes, feature extra-length bios for the toys. The great thing here is that we finally get some more background on who Alpha Bravo is and how he came to join the Aerialbots.

We have a big shout out and thank you to send to TFW member Viking_iGamer, who brought this to our attention via the TFW2005 Facebook page.
