TFExpo Ryu Oh

TFExpo is getting underway this weekend in Wichita, Kansas, and our sponsors Captured Prey have a few third party items to display at their booth at the convention – including the first look at a prototype of one of the figures from the FansProject Ryu-Oh combiner set. Ryu-Oh is based on the Japanese Generation 1 Dinoking figure, and a Monstructor redeco has also been teased. The figure on show at TFExpo looks to be the unofficial version of Bristleback – and he’s already looking pretty fine.

Check out the images from the display after the break, which also includes a look at Mastermind Creations’ Commotus, Jaegertron, and Seraphicus Prominon, along with Fans Toys’ Grenadier. Captured Prey is also saying they will have something from Play with This Too to show off – possibly the first public exhibition of the Jetstrike prototype?

If you are at TFExpo this weekend, swing by the Captured Prey booth and check these out for yourself in person!

Cloud Hellwarp 37

Another lazy Saturday here, another random photo shoot. Today we are taking a look at Transformers Cloud Hellwarp – a repaint of Generations Sky-Byte into Skywarp colors. Why you ask? Well, check out TFW2005’s own Sol Fury’s explanation from a while back:

Hellwarp is a completely new, non-homage character, there was a Hellscream in 1998’s Beast Wars Second, who was a remold of Cybershark to represent an evolved version of that show’s Starscream. Hellwarp is a similar concept – a recolored version of Generations Skybyte to represent a cyborg shark evolution of skywarp. To top it off, the mohawk head that using the Skybyte mold gives Skywarp just might be a reference to Transformers Armada Skywarp, who also had a fin on his head. Hellwarp is the E-Hobby exclusive of the fourth set of Cloud releases.

What we get is a wacky new way to repaint the shark and give OG Robots in Disguise fans more filler for their shelves. This guy was an e-Hobby exclusive and is available from some of our sponsors: Big Bad Toy Store, TFSource, Toy Arena, Hobby Link Japan, and The Chosen Prime.

Check out some key shots after the break, and check the full gallery here: TFW2005’s Transformers Cloud Hellwarp Gallery

Never to be outdone, X-Transbots announces their entry into the upcoming Galvatron Wars with MX-IV Abaddon. We’ve figured this was coming for quite some time as XTB has already shown their Masterpiece-styled Cyclonus (Eligos) and Scourge (Andras), so it was only natural and expected that they would complete the set and finally give collectors the post-movie Decepticon leader they’ve always craved. This is only an initial announcement, so we don’t have a release date or pricing information available, but make sure to check back as we learn more about this project and update our information. In the meantime, feel free to » Continue Reading.

Another reveal from X-Transbots as they show off a CG render of one of their many upcoming projects which happens to be a Masterpiece-inspired Inferno. From the looks of it, the cleverly-named Dante aka Inferno will be extremely true to the Generation 1 animation model, making for another excellent option for those looking to fill in a few gaps in a Masterpiece collection. No price or release date has been reported yet as the figure seems to still be in the early stages of design, but check back here for such info and more and don’t forget to click the discussion link to share your » Continue Reading.

Transformers Devastation Rated T For Teen

Until now, the upcoming Transformers: Devastation by PlatinumGames (published by Activision) was kept in RP video game rating (Rating Pending). Today, the Entertainment Software Rating Board has issued the final Rating for the game.

Transformers: Devastation has been rated T For Teen with the following Rating Summary:

“This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of Autobots on a mission to stop the Deceptions’ evil plans. From a third-person perspective, players traverse urban environments and battle enemy robots in frenetic melee-style combat. Players use swords, energy blades, laser blasters, and vehicles attacks to destroy enemies. Battles are accompanied by close-up slow motion effects and colorful flashes of light; enemies disappear amid large explosions when defeated. In one sequence, players can use laser turrets to shoot down a horde of flying robots.”

In addition to that we have with us a rather interesting Technical Detail. It is stated that the game will run at 60 FPS at 1080p HD on both Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles. You can check out some more details from DualShockers, after the jump.

Producer Robert Conkey and Saito-san stated:

  • Activision was the one that went to PlatinumGames with the idea of the game, and discovered that the folks at the house of Bayonetta were big Transformers fans.
  • The game is not developed by the same team as The Legend of Korra, as PlatinumGames mixes and matches teams for different games. Some developers come from Korra (for instance the producer), others from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and from other games.
  • At the end of every combo you can trigger a transformation attack, with the right timing. After that, you can chain a fully new combo.
  • Loot changes depending on difficulty. You have a chance to get better loot the more challenging you choose the game to be.
  • Taking the visuals directly from the shows would have caused the graphics to look pretty dated, so the team used modern animation techniques like glow shading applied to the entire world.
  • Animations have been referenced heavily from the old shows, but they have been mixed with PlatinumGames style and responsiveness.
  • Transformations are a mix of the shows, in which the Transformers “morph,” and of the toys, in which parts are mechanically moved into place.

Mirage Comic Bio

Via ItsWalky on Tumblr, we have a look at the comic pack-in bios for Combiner Wars Deluxe Wave 4. The four toys in this assortment – Prowl, Sunstreaker, Ironhide, and Mirage – all receive extended bios on the backs of the comics which they are packed with. These bios mash-up different elements of the backstory from multiple continuities – giving elements such as Ironhide’s ornery cowboy persona from Generation 1 and his cannons from his Movie incarnation, or Prowl having a tendency to flip tables from the current comics. Check them out and see what you think.

New Transformers: Devastation Screenshots And Concept Art

transformers devastation 05

Activision has issued several Transformers: Devastation screenshots and concept art for us to enjoy.

Game Director Kenji Saito stated:

“These outline sketches are first and foremost designed with an 80’s cartoon or anime feel. After that we revise the concept so the in-game model will have the right proportions and level of detail. The three heads come from the designer experimenting to see just how much detail he might be able to fit. You’ll see detail increases going left to right, as does the” robotic feel (Still not the level of detail of an actual robot, though). We chose the leftmost head for our model, however. The reason for this relates to the “wakame” shading I mentioned before. In order to bring out the effect of this shader as much as possible, we actually limited the detail we used. We then colored the concept similarly to how we use our shader to determing just how much density we wanted in the design. Our original design had a sharp, slim design similar to robot anime in Japan now. The design we ended up on gives Optimus Prime much broader shoulders and a well defined upper body. These changes were mostly inspired by western cartoons and toys. One area we paid special interest to was the fingers. Robots from the 80s are known to have rounder fingers. This took some extra effort polygon splitting for in-game. It’s easiest to tell on characters like Devastator. There are concepts like these for each of the characters that appear in Transformers: Devastation, I hope we get to show you them all.”

The latest Transformers game is expected to release on Oct. 6 and will be available on the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Check out the images, after the jump

One Step Gold Armor Grimlock Robot

Via the Target website, we have a look at the unphotoshopped official images of the One Step Robots in Disguise Patrol Strongarm and Gold Armor Grimlock. The pair are redecos of their respective initial toys – a black redeco of Strongarm, and a Generation 1 redeco for Grimlock. A heads-up if you’re going to be looking for these on the pegs – the card artwork still shows the initial decos, and not the new repaint decos.

Warbotron has revealed via their weibo account, new images of their WB-03F figure. This legends sized companion piece is to go along side Warbotron’s take on G1 Computron. The intention is to help replicate Computron and Grimlock’s interaction in the Generation 1 Season 3 episode “Grimlock’s New Brain“. An episode which has our lovable dim-witted Dinobot comander becoming super smart and creating the Technobots.

This testshot is shown in bright (almost G2-ish) colored plastic, but will be Generation 1 colored upon it’s final release.
